Frequently asked questions
Are screenshots uploaded anywhere?
No. Images remain on your device by default, and OCR is fully offline. pixgrep has no application servers.
Does OCR need an internet connection?
No. It uses the offline Windows.Media.Ocr engine, with no usage fees.
Can it search Japanese screenshots?
Yes. FTS5 trigram search, 2× enlargement for low-DPI images, and NFKC normalization improve Japanese matching.
Will capture feel slow?
No. Only local save and clipboard copy are synchronous; OCR, compression, and indexing run in the background.
Can I use the same archive on several devices?
Yes. Put the data folder under iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Syncthing, or another sync tool you choose.
What if the database is damaged?
Your screenshots are not lost. The index can be rebuilt completely from images and sidecar JSON files.
Which systems are supported?
Windows 10/11 (64-bit). macOS is not currently available. A Japanese OCR language pack may be required.
